L&M 1972 - #2: As promised, here’s the 2nd half of our Same Tour Different show entry featuring Loggins & Messina in 1972. This one’s a soundboard recording from June 30, 1972, 43 years ago today. By the way - 2 notes for the Dead Heads out there. First, this is Betty Cantor soundboard, whose “Betty Board” tapes of the Dead are the stuff of legends. Second, Loggins plays a slowed down version of Friend of The Devil, which is much different than the bluegrass pace the Dead used when they recorded the track for the album American Beauty. Legend has it that Garcia heard this version and liked it so much that Dead adopted the slower tempo for their live performances of the tune!

Thanks for this, speedy - one so rarely sees Loggins & Messina boots in general, but I've enjoyed each one you have so kindly shared here.
I was at this concert. L&M opening for New Riders. My honey and I didn't even bother to stay a song into the Riders set. They'd just been blown off the stage in our minds. What a great horn section.
