John Fogerty - 1970s: In the first half of 1970, Creedence Clearwater Revival was riding an immense wave of commercial and critical success. They had graduated from playing smaller halls such as the Fillmore, moving into large scale arenas such as the Oakland Coliseum, where they recorded their January 31, 1970 concert for a live album. They appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in February 1970. Between January and April, the band released the hit singles Travelin' Band, Who'll Stop The Rain, Up Around The Bend and Run Through The Jungle. In June, they would go into the studio to record what many have called their best album, Cosmo's Factory, which went straight to number 1 on the Billboard charts when released in July. Who would have guessed then, that by year end, Tom Fogerty would leave Creedence, the first in a series of internal dissensions that would eventually lead to the band's demise in 1972. This concert, from Madison Square Garden from May 13, 1970, 46 years ago today, captures the band, therefore, at a its peak. The show is taken from a very rare acetate once owned by WNEW-FM In NY. The acetate also included an audience recording from May 2, 1970 in Seattle. You get both shows with one download, along with an opportunity to re-visit a pivotal moment in CCR's history.

In my opinion the apparent NY concert is actually from Oakland 30/1/70. My reasoning is that they would have played UATB at the NY show as it was their hot new single. See the Seattle setlist for more or less what NY will have been.

thanks a bunch for the ccr Speedy.know that for some reason few good bootlegs are in circulation. Do yiu know if any 1068 shows exist? That was before the big 69 thru 71 explosion where they had hit after hit. Believe their shows had some covers as well as more long jams as there wernt as many hits yet.Would be nice to hear them in that earlier style before they became A M hitmakers thanks again
