When the Allman Brothers reunited in the early 1990’s. a pivotal element of their new found success was the guitar play of Warren Haynes. Haynes decided to leave the band in early 1997, however, in part to focus full time on Gov’t Mule and in part, because of on-going dissension with Dicky Betts. So, the 1996 tour really represented Warren’s last hurrah with the band. until he returned in 2000. This soundboard recording captures the Allmans with Warren in Pelham on May 3, 1996, 2 dozen years ago today.

Troubles with Dickey notwithstanding, the 90s were a fascinating decade for the band. the arrival of Warren Haynes, and the stints with Jack Pearson and Jimmy Herring followed by Derek Trucks' joining continued the unique evolution of my favourite band. Thanks for posting this one, speedy.

Possibly one of their best concerts. Dickey's solo on Ain't Waistin' Time No More was good, which was a song he usually struggled on. Gregg's voice was really good, even on Good Clean Fun, which he normally struggled to sing after the Seven Turns tour. And a very good version of True Gravity and I love the guests on Southbound.
