In the early 1980s, punk and new wave music ruled the airwaves, helped along by the arrival of MTv. The Hobken music scene produced The Bongos, who in 1982, released the album Drums Along The Hudson, which featured a host of tunes, such as Bulrushes, Zebra Club and In The Congo, that blended guitar driven pop with a dance beat. They even received a nomination at the inaugural MTV Vido Music Awards for the tune Numbers Without Wings. The band broke up in 1987, but on May 16, 1996, 24 years ago today, reunited for a benefit show, as captured in this soundboard recording, for Hoboken musician George Usher.
