The first 3 times I saw Jerry Garcia, all in the late 1970s & early 1980s, long time song writing partner Robert Hunter served as his lead in. Hearing Hunter live is always a unique experience, as his take on the countless tunes he wrote with Jerry is often so different than how they sound when played by the Grateful Dead. 

This soundboard recording captures Hunter just a few weeks before in saw him for the last time, on July 28, 1984, 38 years ago today.
