In 1952, Frank Sinatra's career hit rock bottom. He was barely drawing 100 people to concert halls that helf over a thousand people. His relationship with Columbia Records fell apart. Frank appeared done. Then in 1953, two major events changed everything for Sinatra. First, he won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for the movie From Here To Eternity, outting his film career back on track. Second, he moved to capitol Records, where he began recording with Nelson Riddle. The first song they worked on toegther was I've Got the World On A String, and after listening to the playbacks, Sinatra could not hide his enthusiasm, exclaiming, "I'm back, baby, I'm back!" And he was! His first single for Capitol, Young At Heart, released in early 1954, climbed to #2 on the charts and was eventually named Song Of The Year. So, when Frank headed down under in early 1955 for a series of shows in Austrailia, the Chairman Of The Board had officlaly regained his title! This soundboard or excellent audioence recording captures Frank during the first of two shows in Melbourne, on January 19, 1955, 68 years ago today! By the way, this is now the oldest recording on this blog!
