1980s - #4: In late 1981, the Allman Brothers were a band in deep trouble. Their record label, Capricorn, had collapsed about a year earlier due to financial issues,. In addition, Southern Rock was losing popularity amidst the punk and new wave revolution. Moreover, in fighting, especially between Greg Allman and Dickie Betts, often fueled by alcohol and drugs, was tearing the band apart. By 1982, kt was over. As Dickie Betts explained, "we broke up in '82 because we decided we better just back out or we would ruin what was left of the band’s image." Fortunately for rock fans, the band would get back together in 1986 and continue its long, illustrious career well into the 21st century. This soundboard recording captures the allman Brothers in one of theor last concerts before their 1982 break up, in Gainesville, on January 16, 1982, 44 years ago today.

In his autobiography, didn't Gregg say that this concert was to pay off some drug- or alcohol-fueled legal judgement?
Didn't read his bio so can't confirm or deny that
What a fascinating era of Allmans live shows! Three people in the pic on the back - I have no ideas who they are. Thanks a ton for sharing this show.
