Grateful Dead - 1985-02-18 - Oakland CA (SBD)

Grateful Dead - 1985 - #1:  For  Jerry Garcia, 1985 started and ended on a difficult note, yet in between, the Dead played some amazing concerts.  On January 18, Garcia was busted while getting high in is car in Golden Gate Park.  You can find the full story here. On December 31, the Dead's annual New Year's Eve show, which was broadcast nationally on both TV and Radio, found Garcia looking tired, strung out and sounding weak.  The pull of heroin was was clearly taking its toll of the Dead's musical and spiritual leader.  Yet, during the Spring tour, while celebrating  the band's 20th anniversary, the Dead played some their best shows of the decade, with surprising set lists and tstrong new songs, such as Touch of Gray, Hell In A bucket, West La Fadeaway, and Throwing Stones, which would eventually be included on the 1987 album, In the Dark.  Over the next 3 days, we'll bring you the first 3 concerts from that up and down 20th anniversary year, starting with this soundboard recording from Oakland from February 18, 1985, 35 years ago today.
