On September 8, 1979, 45 years ago today, Parr Meadows Race Track in Brookhaven, Long Island hosted a concert in honor of the 10th Anniversary of Woodstock. A crowd of 40,000 turned out for the show, hardly the “half a million strong” from 1969, but still twice what an arena the size of Madison Square Garden could hold. The ten hour show featured a number of artists who played at the original Woodstock Festival, though many of them were now flying solo, such as Country Joe McDonald, Leslie West, Jorma Kaukonen, Paul Butterfield, Rick Danko and Stephen Stills. John Sebastian, who as mentioned in a post last month, wasn't originally invited to Woodstock but still wound up playing a short set, also made this 10th anniversary show, as captured in the FM broadcast.
