1980s - #3: Bob Seger began playing rock & roll in 1961, but didn't break through until 1976, when the album Night Moves went to #8 on the Billboard charts. He followed that with the album Stranger In Town in 1978, which climbed all the way to #4.  The in 1980, as a new decade dawned, Seeger went to the top of the charts with the album Against The Wind.  After spending 5 weeks at #2 on the Billboard charts, Against The Wind would knock Pink Floyd's legendary album, The Wall, out of the top spot. and then spend 6 weeks at #1. Two singles from the album, the title track and Fire Lake, both cracked the top 10 on the singles charts. The album would sell almost 4 million copies by the end of 1981 and Seger would win a Grammy for it for best performance by a rock group or duo.
