So, how many of you knew that every year on July 4, Washington DC hosts a music festival that draws hundreds of thousands of people?  If you don't, its probably because its not billed as a festival, but rather as a celebration of America's Independence. Since 1980, (with the exception of 2020 & 2021 due to the COVID pandemic) A Capitol Fourth, a concert featuring dozens of musical guests that culminates in an extraordinay fireworks show,  has taken place from presented from the west lawn of the United States Capitol Building. The concert is broadcast on PBS, NPR and the American Forces Network. While the concert features such traditions as opening with te National Anthem, and closing with the National Symphony Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture with accompaniment from an Army artillery squad as a prelude to the fireworks, in between some of rock's finest have taken the stage over the years. Past performers have included John Fogerty, Smokey Robinson, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder, Little Richard, Huey Lewis and the News, Jerry Lee Lewis, Neil Diamond, The Beach Boys, The Four Tops, and Belinda Carlisle, just to name a few.  This TV soundboard recording captures the one and only Frankie Valli at the 2014 concert, on July 4, 2014, 11 years ago today.
