Born in Long Branch, Bruce Springsteen will always be New Jersey’s own. With songs and lyrics rooted in his experiences growing up in depressed,, working class town of Freehold, Springsteen sought to bring dignity to the struggles of the common man. He became synonymous with the Jersey Shore music scene, so it was quite fitting that his first album was entitled Greetings From Asbury Park. Decades later, even after achieving international stardom and being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Springsteen continues to identify with his home state. When the tragedy of 9-11 ripped into the soul of New York an New Jersey, Springsteen responded first with the tune My City Of Ruins, originally written for Asbury Park but transformed to reflect the tragic events of that day, and later the album, The Rising, When Hurricane Sandy devastated his New Jersey Springsteen was first on stage at the 12-12-12 concert to raise money for those impacted by the storm. Another NJ native, Frank Sinatra was the Chairman of The Board, and Springsteen will always be The Boss. This soundboard recording captures Bruce on April 7, 1976, 38 years ago today, in Memphis. A year earlier, The album Born To Run had put Springsteen on the map, In 1976, he found himself playing cities where he and the E-Street Band had never before ventured, hoping that the popularity they had in states such as New Jersey New York and California would spread to America’s heartland.
