We continue our “We’re An American Band (North American, that is)” theme with yet another artist who moved from the East to the West Coast in order to pursue his musical dreams. Born in Washington DC in 1940, Jorma Kaukonen moved to San Francisco in 1962. As one of the founding members of the Jefferson Airplane, he was an integral part of the musical and cultural revolutions that arose in that city in the mid 1960s. Jorma, along with Jack Casssady, would launch Hot Tuna in 1969, even while both were still members of the Airplane. Jorma would also have a successful solo career, especially playing acoustic tunes that showcased his incredible dexterity and finger picking skills. This soundboard recording captures Jorma at his acoustic best, on April 16, 1982, 32 years ago today.

Wow Speedy a true treasure, While Grace Slick , and Marty Balin as great singers and frontmen and woman in this case as they were, it was Jorma's unbelievable guitar licks and Jack Casady's booming powerful base that were the glue that held the airplane together. Jorma, extremely underated, could play any guitar acoustic or electric as for Jack, in my opinion he along with John [ THE OX] Entwhistle were the two greatest base players in rock history. Any other postings other than with the airplane with Jack Speedy. thanks again
great post speedy, love the airplane and all its componets ,Jorma and Jack the glue that held it all together, Jorma very underated could play any guitar lick ,Jack probably one of the two greatest base players in rock history along with the Ox, do you happen to have any Casady postings ? thanks again

Simply Amazing....thank you. Question for you. I have a few Jorma & Tuna shows that are not on internet...excellent quality. What program can I use to rip them to @320. I have Roxio and itunes..
If they are on CD, you can use Itunes - somewhere in the Itunes setting or preferences you can set up to rip @ mp3 320
