On February 1, 1970, The Doors released their 5th studio album, Morrison Hotel, a return to the band’s roots after the experimental nature of their previous disc, Soft Parade. The band’s approach seemed to work, as Morrison Hotel reached #4 on the Billboard charts. The album also received positive critical reviews. For example, Dave Marsh, the editor of Creem magazine, wrote that the album was: "the most horrifying rock and roll I have ever heard. When they're good, they're simply unbeatable. I know this is the best record I've listened to ... so far.” While the album did not yield any top 40 singles, it did include tunes that would become staples of FM radio play, including Roadhouse Blues, Waiting For The Sun and Peace Frog.
