On August 24, 1987, John Mellencamp released the album Lonesome Jubilee, the follow up to his monster success, Scarecrow, which had gone to #2 on the Billboard charts in 1985. While not quite as successful as its predecessor, Lonesome Jubilee still climbed to #5 on the charts. In addition, it spawned 3 top 15 singles; Paper in Fire at #9, Cherry Bomb at #8 and Check It Out at #14.
