1971 - In September 1971, Santana released the album Santana 3, which featured the band’s Woodstock era line up plus teen guitar prodigy Neil Schon. The disc went to #1 on the Billboard charts, and featured 2 songs which would become staples of FM radio, No One To Depend On and Everybody's Everything, The band’s music would take on a more experimental jazz and Latin feel in the years following this disc,. As such, those albums had less commercial appeal, and Santana would not have another #1 album until Supernatural in 1999. That 28 year gap was the longest for any artist between #1 records! This soundboard recording captures Santana in San Diego shortly after the release of Santana 3, on November 5, 1971, 42 years ago today. Download this one to hear Carlos and company during what many feel was their commercial and artistic peak.
