1969 - The final year of the 1960s was the culmination of a decade of change. The Beatles dissolved and music would never be the same. Man walked on the moon, fulfilling a promise made by John Kennedy at the start of the decade. The peace and love generation reached its zenith at Woodtsock, noty knowing at the time that just months later, the disaster of Altamont would be the beginning of the end. Nixon took office, and the furor over the US involvement in the Viet Nam War reached new heights. Late in that year, Simon & Garfunkel would perform a concert on November 11, 1969, 44 years ago today, at Miami University in Ohio. The set list included 5 songs from an album that wouldn’t be released until January 1970, including The Boxer and the title track, Bridge Over Troubled Water. Much like the world around them, the duo were also undergoing changes. Garfunkel was pursuing an acting career, which increased the tensions between the two. In fact, the stress was so great that the twosome could not agree on a 12th song for the upcoming disc. Despite the overwhelming commercial and critical success of Bridge Over Troubled Water, by mid 1970 Simon & Garfunkel would break up.
