1978: When the Beach Boys took the stage in Australia on March 15, 1978, 39 years ago today, as captured in the soundboard recording, they were a band in complete disarray. Brothers Carl Dennis and Brian Wilson were all in the process of getting divorced from their wives. Brian's addictions were once again in control him, causing him to no show performances and behave erratically. Carl and Dennis would often be drunk on stage, barely able to play. Moreover, all there Wilson Brothers were shooting heroin throughout this tour of Australia. In fact, the group was so incoherent during their time in the land down under that they actually has to hold a press conference to apologize for their performances, or lack there of!

Thanks for this, and if you read the band's unauthorized biography "Heroes and Villains" you see this is likely the darkest time in this legendary group's career. Surprisingly few soundboards from this time (they did a live broadcast from the Philadelphia Spectrum in 1980 which occasionally shows up) but most of them are pretty muddy.
I hope this is high audio quality, just to hear how they could destroy a concert due to heroin....
Interesting indeed,
Derek from Paris
Heroin is serious and is more prevalent and lethal today than it ever was when the Beach Boys and other rock and jazz acts were using it regularly. Surprised the brothers stayed alive as long as they did using it. Brian sometimes has to wonder how and why he is the lone surviving member of his family.
