The first time Rolling Stone magazine compiled its list of the top 100 guitarists of all time,, in 2003, Bruce Springsteen didn't make the list.  The 2nd time, Bruce barely squeaked in at #96. Try to explain that to the folks who saw his shows in 1975 at the Roxy in Los Angeles and the Bottom Line in New York. Those performances, combining captivating stage presence and electrifying guitar work, launched Bruce to stardom, eventually appearing on the covers of Time and Newsweek in the same week! Three years later, Springsteen played another historic show at the Roxy. On July 7, 1978, 39 years ago today, Bruce played one night at the Roxy as part of his legendary Darkness on The Edge of Town tour. The show featured the premieres of Point Blank, Rave On, and Independence Day, which was performed solo on piano for only time on the tour. The show was broadcast live on KMET radio, which has added to its legendary status. And thanks to that broadcast, you can download it and hear for yourself why this one is a contender for the title of “greatest Springsteen concert ever.”
