Few bands in rock history have been as star crossed as Badfinger. The band was signed by Apple Records in 1969, and scored a top 10 hit in the US with the tune Come & Get It, written by Paul McCartney. Two more top 10 songs, and a top 15 single would follow in the net 3 years, with No Matter What, Day After Day and Baby Blue. Badfinger would get caught, unfortunately, in the chaotic unravelling of Apple, which made it difficult for the band to get paid. Moreover, their manager, Stan Polley, was embezzling what funds the bad did have. The financial crisis coupled with legal entanglements brought on by the demise of Apple proved too much for Peter Ham,.one of the founders of the band, to endure. He committed suicide at the age of 27 in 1975. Eight years later, Tom Evans of the band would do likewise. Two tragic ends to what was once a promising musical career. This soundboard recording captured Badfinger, before the dark times, during their triumphant 1972 tour promoting the album Straight Up and the single Day After Day, on April 7, 1972, 4 dozen years ago today. Download this one, and while you listen, and take a minute to say a few prayers for two men, and a band, gone way before their time.

More Badfinger is always welcomed! I saw them in the early 70s and they were an incredible live band. One of my all-time favorite shows.
Great post Speedy. back when music was real and record companies as well as radio and other media outlets promoted bands and artists with real talent not like the mainstream no talent garbage of today, Remember the early 70s like it was yesterday, Straight Up was released in late 71 or very early 72, Day after Day was a huge hit sounded a lot like the beatles then Baby Blue followed in the spring of 72 another hit. Stan Polley was a total piece of garbage. What he did to those guys breaks your heart. Losing Pete who had a pregnant girlfriend at the time and Tom a few years later was all Polleys fault. He totaly ripped off the entire band. Pete was so depressed he hung himself,Tom did also later on. Petes daughter never got to know her dad and two families were ripped apart because of Mr Polley. From what i understand Stan Polley lived to a very old age which just proves how unfair life can be.while we lost Pete and Tom when they had so much more to give. By the way Baby Blue was used in the last episode of Breaking Bad during Walter Whites death scene . Believe that episode sparked an interest in badfinger as Baby Blue hit the charts again over 40 years after its initial release, thanks again Speedy, say a prayer for Pete and Tom, they deserved a much better fate
Love Badfinger, Stan Polley should rot in hell, Did you see or hear about The Breaking Bad episode featuring Baby Blue, classsic finale scene one of the best ever and one of the best shows of all time .think the song charted again after that, Thanks Vince Gilligan for putting it in
I met tom evans at a small bar where he was playing in a "badfinger". we expressed our sympathies about pete he said"i cut him down!" then my friend wanted to go home and bring back an album for him to sign "i'll wait right here with your mate,take your time!" i told him i really loved"wish you were here" he said"they spent hours setting up that table and there was nothing for us to do so we drank! right before the picture was to be taken i spewed!!
This is a very enjoyable show. I took these tracks into Audacity and improved many of them with gentle gain and some low-pass filtering to fix sudden low level spots (and all of track 4). I also seamlessly patched track 10 (which was missing the last 10 seconds of ending and the crowd response) with 3 small patches from another BF show. Thanks for sharing these!
Indeed, an amazing band that deserved so much better.
It's a shame more of these don't exist, very greatful for this one tho'.
