On March 22, 1974, The Eagles released their 3rd studio album, entitled On The Border. During the recording of the disc, In January 1974, Glenn Frey called Don Felder to add slide guitar to the song Good Day in Hell. The band was so impressed with Felder's work that they invited him to join the group as the fifth Eagle the next day. The album would go to #17 on the Billboard charts, and spawn the first of the band's number 1 singles, the tune Best of My Love. Two other singles, Already Gone, and James Dean, would reach #32 and #77, respectively on the charts. A few weeks after the album's release, Th Eagles played at California Jam in Ontario, a festival billed as The Woodstock of The West that was headlined by Deep Purple and ELP and drew a crowd over 300,000 fans This FM Broadcast captures the Eagles at that festival on April 6, 1974, 46 years ago today. Felder wasn't able to join the band due to the birth of his son, so Jackson Browne filled in or him!

Good NJ story. Summer of 72 my friend and i went to Convention Hall in Asbury to see Yes.
The warm up act comes out looking nervous, one of them said they were the Eagles from Hollywood California. A strange billing of prog rock and country rock.
NJ audiences are notoriously tough. i saw a drunken crowd eat up America when they opened for J Geils
The Eagles went over pretty well and I remember they ended with what they called their " first single" which was Take It Easy.
Who would have ever thought I would get to see the first NJ appearance of what would be one of the biggest bands in the world?
