In January 1979, Elvis Costello released his 3rd album, Armed Forces, although during production the working title for the disc was Emotional Fascism. The disc continued Costello’s run of commercial and critical success. Armed Forces climbed to # 10 on the Billboard charts in the US, and did even better in the UK, reaching the #2 position. Famed critic Robert Christgau gave the album a grade of A-, while Rolling Stone wrote that it’s “an album that's a killer in several senses of the word.” In 2000, Q magazine placed Armed Forces at number 45 on its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. Then, in 2003, the album was ranked number 482 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. This soundboard recording captures Costello on April 12, 1979, 41 years ago this very day years, in Bethlehem, PA on tour in support of Armed Forces.
