Once a blues based band propelled by Peter Green’s guitar work, Fleetwood Mac underwent an incredible transformation in the early 1970s. The band went through a 10 different lineup changes, with the final step being the departure of Bob Welch and the arrival of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. The result was what is now known as the classic Fleetwood Mac line up – Buckingham, Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie. The newly constructed band released a self titled album in July 1975, which at first received very little attention. The band toured relentlessly in support of the disc, however, and 15 months after its release, it climbed to #1 on the US charts. The .album also produced 3 top 20 singles – Over My Head, Rhiannon, and Say You Love Me. Of course, more was still to come from this line up, as in 1977, they would release Rumours, one of the biggest selling albums of all time. This soundboard recording captures Fleetwood Mac during the early days of their tour in support of their just released disc, in Wallingford on September 23, 1975, 4 dozen years ago today. The band played a set list that featured only a few songs from that album. Fleetwood Mac was still in transition, playing older tunes, even ones from the Peter Green era, to appease longtime fans, while slowly acclimating them to the band’s new line up and direction.
