Like his fellow band mates Bob Weir and Phil Lesh, Jery Garcia has not been inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame as a solo artist, but entered the hall in 1994 as a member of the Grateful Dead.  Garcia did not show up for the ceremony but the rest of the band did, and brought a life size cardboard cut out of him! While I doubt any member of the Dead will ever get inducted as a solo artist, Garcia would have the best chance.  In addition to releasing numeorus solo albums, Garcia collaborated both in the studio and on stage with a host of diverse artists such as Merl Sauders, Melvin Seals, Bruce Hornsby, Los Lobos, David Grisman, Peter Rowan, Clarence Clemons, Vassar Clements, CSNY, Jefferson Airplane, Warren Zevon, and Ornette Colemnan - and that's just a partial list!  In any event, in the end, I beleive Jerry is synonomus with the Grateful Dead in too many people's minds (though I have a whole chapter in my book on why that's not true) to ever be considered for his solo work.

In any event, this soundboard recording captures the Jerry Gacia Band at the keystone in Berekely, one of Garcia's favorite venues, on January 13, 1983, 41 years ago today.
