John Sebastian wasn't scheduled to perform at Woodstock, but he went to the festival as a spectator. When rain played havoc with the schedule, however, the festival organizers asked Sebastian to perform an acoustic set while they cleared water off the stage in order to set up the amps for Santana. Sebastian's Woodstock set consisted of 3 songs from his recorded but not yet released John B. Sebastian album (How Have You Been, I Had A DreaM, and Rainbows All Over Your Blues) and 2 Lovin' Spoonful songs (Darling Be Home Soon and Younger Generation). Sebastian appeared on the original Woodstock album and in the documentary film. Twenty-five years later, he returned for Woodstock '94, playing harmonica for Crosby, Stills and Nash and appearing with his own band.
This excellent audience recording captures him a year after Woodstock, at the same Isle Of Wight festival featured in our Chicago post yesterday, on August 29, 1970, 54 years ago today. Thanks Speedy, I was there tho’ curiously don’t recall John’s appearance at all! (can’t think why!?) but it came down the pike from Mediafire like a dream FWIW. Bestests as ever
