ABB 1970 - Back To Back - #1: When the Allman Brothers took the stage at the Fillmore East on February 13, 1970, 56 years ago today, the band was just about 1/2 way between 2 milestones in their career. The first official Allman Brothers band concert took place on March 30, 1969 in Jacksonville, FL. In March, 1971, the Allmans played 2 shows that were recorded for what became one of rock's most legendary live albums, entitled simply At Fillmore East. So this soundboard recording from the venue where they would score their greatest success finds the band on the rise to stardom. By the way, they served as the lead in that night for another jam band that they would be forever linked with, San Francisco's Grateful Dead. They opened for The Grateful Dead. Per their archivist David Lemieux today: 56 years ago today the Grateful Dead played the Fillmore East in New York City. Some of this show was included on Bear’s Choice and on Dick’s Picks Vol. 4.
