On June 1, 2008, 17 years ago today, Sir Paul McCartney found himself back in his home city of Liverpool, headlining a festival in honor of the city's year as the European Capitol of Culture. Also on the bill were The Zutons, The Kaiser Chiefs, and comedian Peter Kay. In front of a crowd of over 30,000, including Yoko Ono and Olivia Harrison, widows of McCartney's former band mates John and George, Paul rocked the 124-year old Anfield Stadium to its foundations. Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters joined McCartney for 3 numbers, playing guitar on Band On The Run, and manning the drum kit during Back In The U.S.S.R. and I Saw Her Standing There. Paul also played tribute to both George and John. For George, he played Something on a ukulele given to him as a gift by Harrison. For John, he played the first ever live performance of A Day In The Life, which segued into a rendition of Lennon's anthem, Give Peace a Chance. David Grohl joined Paul for 3 songs, Band On The Run, Back In The U.S.S.R, and I Saw Her Standing There.
