The Byrds were invited, to play Woodstock, but chose not to participate, figuring it to be no different from any of the other music festivals that summer. The band was also concerned about money. As bassist John York remembers: "We were flying to a gig and Roger [McGuinn] came up to us and said that a guy was putting on a festival in upstate New York. But at that point they weren't paying all of the bands. He asked us if we wanted to do it and we said, 'No'. We had no idea what it was going to be. We were burned out and tired of the festival scene. So all of us said, 'No, we want a rest' and missed the best festival of all."
Interestingly, soon after that decision, York was replaced as the bass player in the band by Skipp Battin. The new line up - Roger McGuinn, Clarence White, Gene Parsons and Battin - became the longest tenured configuration of the band. They also developed a reputation for being a formidable live act, honing their skills by touring relentlessly during a nearly 3 year stretch from September 1969 to July 1972. This soundboard recording captures The Byrds a year after Woodstock on August 16, 1970, 54 years ago today, from the legendary Fillmore West.

Sorry - I don't deal in lossless recordings so can't really point you in any direction.
Another great one! I just want to thank you for still doing mp3s. Makes it so much easier on me -- in regard to download time and disc space. So many folks act like you're low class if you're not flac all the way. But I guess folks will find some way to feel superior in just about any area you can think of.

My pleasure. I understand some people feel FLAC and other lossless files sound better. I simply don't have the ears and equipment to be able to hear any significant difference between FLAC and MP3. And as the legendary Tunzmaster Dino once said, a bad sounding recording still sounds bad even if its in FLAC. In addition, given how long it takes to upload & download using free hosts, the wait times would be intolerable for larger FLAC files. Keep enjoying the tunz.
