In early 1972, Neil Diamond scored his 2nd #1 single when Song Sung Blue climbed to the top of the charts (his first had been Crackin' Rosie in 1970). In August that year, he played 10 sold out shows at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. The August 24 show from that run was released as the double live album, Hot August Night, which went double platinum and climbed to #5 on the Billboard charts. The album would become the stuff of legends, and cemented Diamond's legacy. Four decades later, he returned to the Greek for 2 August concerts which due to ticket demand, quickly grew to 5 sold out shows. Diamond clearly understood the importance of this run, as documented by Steve Baltin of The Hollywood Reporter: “Forty years ago it made my day, made my year, made my professional life, the Greek Theatre did,” Diamond said of the album that changed his career. Indeed, the impact of the venue was foremost on Diamond’s mind and he seemed visibly moved when, during the intro to “Cherry, Cherry,” he had the house lights turned all the way up to “take in” the crowd. “I love you,” he said to the screaming masses. “This is a beautiful sight for me”. This excellent audience recording captures Diamond during "Hot August Night 2012", capturing the August 18, 2012 show, from 6 years ago today, in its entirety. Download this one, then find that well worn copy of the original disc and relive the 1970s.

Thanks for the N D speedy, been a fan for decades. dosent seem to have lost much or any with age as is the case with the other Neil. People like him, Dylan, McCartney, Petty, Fogerty, Elton, Bruce U2 ecc keeping music alive. Heaven help us when they are no longer around as apparently with the state of todays music if you can call it that will be altered forever and not for the better. Oh by the way there is a video on youtube called Neil Diamond BBC 1971, a short but great performance . Is there anyway to get an audio rip from that video . any advise would be appreciated thanks again
