The grounds at Knebworth House, located about 26 miles north of London, hosted their first rock festival in 1974, when the Allman Brothers, Van Morrison and The Doobie Brothers took the stage in front of 60,000 fans (go here for more on Knebworth's history). Additional festivals were held in 1975, 1976, and 1978 with acts such as The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd and Genesis. No Knebworth show might have been more anticipated, however, than the one in 1979, when Led Zeppelin agreed to perform. For Led Zep, it would be their first live show since the death of Robert Plant's son in 1977, and their first show in the UK in 4 years. Ticket demand for the initial August 4 performance was so great that a second show was added on August 11. Zeppelin would return to the stage in front of over 400,000 fans during those 2 days, reinforcing their place at the time as rock's biggest act. Their shows would also feature the first live performances of tunes from their soon to be released album. In Through The Out Door. Some reviews claimed the band sounded rusty -- hardly surprising after a 2 year lay off - and the band members themselves were not completely satisfied with their performance. Maybe they sensed it was the beginning of the end. Led Zep's original line up would never again perform live in their home country. In fact, within a year, John Bonham would be dead and Led Zeppelin would be no more. Download this soundboard of their 2nd Knebworth show from 39 years ago today, August 11, 1979, therefore, to capture their final historic live performance in England.

Really looking forward to hearing this.Travelled down by car on the 10th from Scotland with 3 mates, my 21st birthday.Arrived 6 am ,few hours sleep then in we go ,long hot day Zeppelin a bit of a blur, no idea what songs but remember looking upwards ,showers of bottles, cans in the air people yelling Sit down, y,know.Great times,though ,TA for posting this,John

Thanks for this. I know the 4th was supposed to be a better show but I was there on the 11th so it makes this recording that bit special.
Hi Speedy, slight correction for you. Knebworth House is in Herfordshire and not London. It is approx 26 miles North of central London.

Thanks for the show. Is there any way to get the 1975 LA Forum shows. They are all high quality audience recordings by master taper, the late great Mike Millard. tried getting them off guitars 101 but after the download went thru I couldn't unzip the files. message came up telling me to insert some disk containing the show in c drive whatever that means. Figure those files must be corrupt. Have many great shows from 75 but jinxed when it comes to getting those Millard Forum shows, any advise would be welcome , thanksfor all you do and your great blog

Thanks Speedy, I hit the bulls eye, finally managed to get it Clock had it downloaded the last show from 3,27/75 now we will see if the other Forum Shows from the 24th and 25th will download as well, the 27th is the legendary show where Linda Lovelace introduces the band. Wow Mike Millard was awesome , sounds like soundboard with audience atmosphere, Have his Stones 75 Forum shows as well as Pink Floyd from 4 26/ 75 as well as a Dylan show from 78 and a Yes show from 77. all better than a lot of soundboards, more atmosphere , Millard rules, thanks again
