On March 9th, 1993, Sting released Ten Summoner’s Tales, his 4th solo album since the breakup of the Police in 1987. The album title is a pun on his real surname (Sumner). The album went to #2 on both the US and British charts, while achieving triple platinum status in less than a year. Ten Summoner’s Tales, would be nominated for 6 Grammys, and win 3, including best Pop Vocal performance for If I Ever Lose My Faith In You, the first single from the album. That tune would reach #17 on the Billboard charts in the US, while another song from the album, Fields of Gold, would climb to #23. Sting launched a world tour in support of the album, which would take him to all 6 inhabited continents. This FM broadcast captures Sting in Germany on August 21, 1993, a quarter of a century ago today, during the early stages of that tour.
