Jerry Garcia 1986 - #1: In early 1986, Jerry Garcia and his long time base player, John Kahn, embarked on a two man acoustic tour, playing about a dozen concerts in small venues in California and the Northeast. According to the Jerry Site (go here), the Garcia/Kahn combo only played a total of 63 shows together, so this tour was quite a unique moment in Jerry’s long and storied career. Each night consisted of 2 sets, each featuring stripped own versions of Garcia’s solo work, Grateful Dead classics, cover tunes and traditional folk standards. The duo rolled into The Ritz nightclub in NY for 2 shows in late January. As best as I can tell, it is the only time Garcia appeared at the Ritz, adding yet another unique feature to this tour. This soundboard captures the 1st night at The Ritz, on January 28, 1986, 29 years ago today.
