America - 1972-02-XX - Philadelphia, PA (FM)

Over the years here at So Many Roads, we've had numerous posts from Ultrasonic Studios in New York and The Record Plant in Sausalito. Those radio broadcasts featured some of rock's legends, often when they were just starting out, seeking to build an audience for their material. Philadelphia has a similar show featuring live broadcasts, usually over WMMR-FM, originating from Sigma Sound Studios. We can't bring you the most famous of those Sigma Sound Studios shows, the performance that helped put Billy Joel on the map, because it has been officially released. We can bring you this post, however,an FM broadcast featuring America from February 1972 (exact date unknown), some 44 years ago. The band had just released their debut album on December 29 1971, and their single, Horse With No Name, on January 31, 1972.  That song would soon climb to #1 on the Billboard charts.
