Eric Clapton - Back to Back 1974 - #1:  After returning to the stage in January 1973 at the Rainbow Concert, and finally kicking his addiction to heroin, Eric Clapton went into the studio in April 1973 to record his first solo album. The resulting disc, 461 Ocean Boulevard, went to #1 on the Billboard charts, as did the single I Shot The Sheriff, a remake of the Bob Marley classic. Clapton went on tour in the US in late June 1974, about the same time as the album was released. Incredibly, soundboard or FM recordings exist for almost every show of that tour. Perhaps the decision to tape every show reflected the chart success of 461 Ocean Boulevard, coupled with the excitement generated by EC’s return to the stage after finally kicking his heroin addiction. Of course, the soundboards reveal that while EC may have been clean of heroin, he had found a new demon. Slowhand sounds sloshed at many of these 1974 shows, the result of his growing dependency on alcohol   He returned to the US in the Fall of 1974, then toured Japan in November,  he finished his historic come back year with 4 shows in Europe, with the final 2 at the Hammersmith Odeon in London.
