1977 - As long time readers of this blog know, I not only saw my first Grateful Dead concert in 1977, the famed Englishtown performance on September 3, 1977, with over 150,000 in attendance, still the largest concert in NJ history, but also truly believe it was the finest year in the band's long strange trip. The Spring tour included the May 8 concert at Barton Hall, widely regarded as the best single show in the band ever played. But Spring was more than just Barton Hall, as evidenced that 20 shows from that run were officially released. The fall tour was just as hot, with some folks claiming that the October 29 concert in Des Moines ranks right up wth Barton Hall. In any event, both that show and Englishtown have been officially released, along with 4 other complete concerts from the fall, plus excerpts from 3 others. The end of the years saw no let up in the band's level of play, as the December 29, 1977 concert has also been officially released. This soundboard recording brings you the next night, December 30, 1977, 44 years ago today, at Winterland in San Francisco. A note - some of the second set has been officially released as as bonus tracks, but we're bringing you the entire show - consider it a holiday gift!
