Robert Hunter - 1980-02-07- Asbury Park (SBD)

Robert Hunter, who wrote or co-wrote many of the Grateful Dead's best known tunes (Uncle John's Band, Truckin, Friend Of The Devil and Dark Star, just to name a few), started his association with Jerry Garcia in the early 1960's, when the two played together in a folk/blue grass bands. That makes this another post that fits in perfectly with or folk.country western theme this month. In addition to writing with Garcia, Hunter also penned numerous tunes for his own albums.  In the 70's and 80's, Jerry Garcia Band shows often featured Hunter as the lead-in act.  In fact, the first 2 times I saw Jerry, March 17, 1978 and March 1, 1980, his song writing partner opened for him.  This excellent soundboard recording is from just 3 weeks prior to that 1980 show, on  February 7, 1980, 32 years ago today, from the legendary Fast Lane in Asbury Park.
