As the 1980s became the 1990s, the Allman Brothers, who had disbanded in 1982, once again revived their career. The Allmans reformed in 1989, as the success of Greg Allman’s tune I’m No Angel, coupled with the release of the Dreams box set to commemorate the group’s 20th anniversary, generated renewed public interest in the band. Original members Allman, Dickey Betts, Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson and Butch Trucks were joined by new members Warren Haynes, Johnny Neel and Allen Wood, infusing the band with additional energy. Moreover, Betts and Haynes gave the band a dynamic one two punch on guitar, reminiscent of the glory days of the early 1970s. This soundboard recording captures the Allmans doing an acoustic set on June 11, 1992, 22 years ago today, in Los Angeles as part of a benefit show for the IRSA. Allman Brothers/Bruce Springsteen Connections

• Bruce was a fan of the Allman’s original lineup, especially of the 2 guitar, 2 drummer format of the band. He had an opportunity in March 1971 to open for the Allmans but had just recently disbanded his group, Steel Mill. For the gig, therefore, Bruce formed an impromptu band, initially called Bruce Springsteen & the Friendly Enemies, but quickly renamed Dr. Zoom & The Sonic Boom. The band not only had 2 guitarists and 2 drummers like the Allmans, but also 2 keyboard players and 2 saxophone players. Zoom & Boom would only last 4 gigs, but many of the band members be part of Bruce’s future endeavors, including Steve van Zandt, David Sancious, Garry Tallent, Southside Johnny and Vini Lopez.
• Legend has it that Springsteen tried to get into the Allmans’ dressing room during those March 1971 gigs, but was thrown out by none other than Duane Allman himself. 
• For some reason, many listeners believed that Greg Allman’s 1989 solo hit, I’m No Angel, was actually a tune sung by Bruce Springsteen (I have no idea why - I most certainly don’t hear the similarities!).
