There’s no denying that John Mellencamp was a major force of the Billboard charts in the 1980s. Between 1982 and 1987, he had a run of 4 consecutive multi-platinum albums, all of which cracked the top 10 on the charts. Those 4 discs - American Fool, Uh-huh, Scarecrow and The Lonesome Jubilee - yielded a dozen top 20 singles, plus 2 other which reached the top 30. This soundboard recording captures Mellencamp during his peak period in Denver on August 16, 1982, 35 years ago today.

His boots have all but disappeared, and few seem to remember how he could raise the roof playing live!
Actually, if you go to sites like bigozine.com you will see a few ROIOs from John, but mostly from later in his career. I saw the man twice in 1985 and 1987, and he put on one heck of a show covering "Like A Rolling Stone" as his last song. You forget how really good and influential "Scarecrow" "Lonesome Jubilee," and "Big Daddy" were. He never equaled them.
