In the late 1950s and early 1960s, The Everly Brothers (Phil & Don) had three #1 singles - Wake Up Littel Suzie, All I have To Do Is Dream and Cathy's Clown - and another 3 that went to #2 - Bye Bye Love, Bird Dog and problems. Their vocal harmonies and dual acoustic guitar stylings influenced artists such as The Beach Boys, Simon & Garfunkel and The Beatles. In 2003-2004, The Everlys toured with Simon & Garfunkel, joining Paul and Art on stage for several songs midway through each show. McCartney referenced the duo in his hit Let Em' In, listing Phil and Don among the numerous folks knocking on the door. This soundboard recording captures The Everly Brothers at The Fillmore West on August 3, 1969, 4 dozen years ago today.

Thanks for this. The Everly Brothers were one of my favorite groups and any fan of theirs should look into the music they made in the mid to late 1960s after their peak. They were still making fine music, occasionally scratched the Top 40 (Bowling Green is a beautiful song) and created one of the early C&W roots masterpiece with "Roots" and again influenced the Beatles, Dead, Burrito Bros, etc. Always happy to hear the first generation of rockers, they have disappeared from radio along with most music recorded before 1971.
Glad you enjoyed - I try my best to post a broad spectrum of music here at So Many Roads and to reach back to some of the great music from the late 1950s and early 1960s. Just limited by the lack of tapes - wish I could find Buddy Holly, Sam Cooke, Bobby Darin, etc.
Agree with Mr. P. The Every brothers were so many second-generation rockers favorite band.
Eager to check this out.
Gotta say I'm suspicious of the PP&M > Hair medley ... hard to think of it in context as anything but Branson-level finger-snapping, included to show that the bros. are hip and with it, and of course missing by a mile at the Fillmore, of all places. Of course, I haven't heard it yet ...
