In June 1981, The Go Go's released the single, We Got The Beat, and the accompanying video became a mainstay on the then fledgling MTV channel. A month later, the band released the album Beauty and The Beat, which steadily climbed the charts until it reached the top spot, where it remained for 6 weeks. The Go Go's had taken the music world by storm, and made history in the process. Beauty and The Beat became the first album entirely written and performed by an all-female band to top the charts. Today the disc is recognized as one of the cornerstones of the new wave movement. This FM broadcast captures them during those heady days on August 20, 1981, 3 dozen years ago today in Boston.
