Carlos Santana was a legend before his band even released their first album. Emerging from the San Francisco music scene in 1967, Santana was renown in the Bay Area for his live performances at venues such as the Fillmore. In August 1969, just prior to the release of their debut album, the band played Woodstock and emerged as stars on the national stage. The disc went to #4 on the Billboard charts, with the single Evil Ways climbing to #9. This soundboard recording captures Santana abut 5 months prior to Woodstock and the release of the band's first album, on their home turf in San Francisco on March 26, 1969, a half century ago today!
