Incredibly, as half a million gathered for an Aquarian Exposition on Max Yasgur's farm in Bethel, Bob Dylan was actually living in Woodstock. Promoters offered him a headlining spot, but Dylan declined. Some sources claim it was because his son fell ill  Others say that Bob was tired of the growing numbers of "hippies and druggies" gathering near his home. Whatever the reason, Bob passed on Woodstock, but it didn't stop him from playing The Isle Of Wight Festival in the UK just two weeks later.

This IEM recording captures Dylan 17 years after Woodstock, on tour in Atlanta on August 8, 1996, 23 years ago today.
