The organizers of the Woodstock Festival had every intention of having the biggest musical acts in the world play the event, and that meant making every effort to get The Beatles. Most sources on the internet concur that the Woodstock team reached out to John Lennon about having The Beatles play. The story gets a bit messy, however, after that Some sites simply say the band turned down the offer because except for their rooftop performance in January 1969, they hadn't played live in over 3 years. Other sources claim that Lennon, who was in Canada at the time. couldn't commit to playing with his band mates since as the Nixon administration wouldn't let him back into the US. Still other sites claim that Lennon told the Woodstock organizers The Beatles would only play the festival if the The Plastic Ono Band, featuring Yoko, also got an invite. The organizers politely declined that deal! Whatever the real reason, The Fab Four didn't make an appearance at Woodstock.
Five years earlier, on August 19, 1964, The Beatles launched the first North American Tour with a show at the Cow Palace in San Francisco, the same city ironically where they would conclude their final tour in 1966. Beatlemania was in full swing and their arrival in San Francisco airport was met by over 9000 screaming fans. Three days later, on August 22, 1964, 55 years ago today, the Fab Four played their first ever concert in Canada at in front of 20,261 fans at the Empire Stadium in Vancouver. This FM recording, originally broadcast on local radio station CKNW captures the Beatles’ entire 30 minute, 11 song set. Please note that the while this is a copy of a radio broadcast, it is over a a half a century old, so the sound quality is most certainly not perfect. That said, it’s the Beatles, which makes it a must have for your collection.

One reason the Beatles did not play Woodstock is there was no more Beatles by summer of 69! Even though it was not publicly announced until early 1970, the Beatles had broken up by that summer of 69.
Summer of 69 there most certainly was Beatles... recording Abbey Road!
By the summer of 69 Abby Road was completed with the exception of one song(I can't recall which one now) that had further dubbing by Paul, John and George in early 1970. The breakup was announced publically in April or May 1970 but the Beatles as a group were no longer by Summer 69. John refused to sign a new contract. The Let It Be(Get Back) sessions were a nightmare in January 1969 and the only reason Abbey Road happened is the Beatles did not want the crappy Get Back sessions to be their last release. George Martin said he would only do it if they recorded as they use to do and not live.
