The Byrds - 1970-09-19 - Los Angeles, CA (SBD) - Late Show

1970 -  On September 14, 1970, The Byrds released the album Untitled, a double disc featuring both live and studio material. The disc was a critical and commercial success, being heralded as a return to form for the band. Three days after the album’s release The Byrds took up residence at the Whiskey A Go Go for a 3 night stand, 2 shows each night, with the Flying Burrito Brothers as their opening act. The line-up of original member Roger McGuinn, Clarence White, Gene Parsons and Skip Battin had developed a reputation for stellar live performances, and the shows at the Whiskey would be no exception. These soundboard recordings capture both the early and late shows from the last night at the Whiskey, on September 19, 1970, 49 years ago today. The tape of the late show also includes the Burrito Brothers set. In fact, The Burrito Brothers stayed on stage all night, playing back up for The Byrds during their set. Download this one to hear The Byrds at their live peak, on a night when Roger McGuinn would jam with former band mate Chris Hillman, who had left the Byrds in 1968 to join the Flying Burrito Brothers!  And of course, McGuinn and Hillman would reunite in the late 1970s, along with fellow former Byrd Gene Clark, to form McGuinn, Clark and Hilllman.
