As mentioned in numerous posts on So Many Roads, between 1989 and 1991, the Grateful Dead played some of their finest performances not just since Jerry Garcia recovered from his diabetic coma in 1987, but also since the band’s peak in the 1970s. The band's playing was strong night in and night out, as evidenced by the large number of official releases from that 3 year year run (go here to see for yourself). In addition, the set lists expanded, with long lost tunes Such as Attics of My Life and Death Don't Have No Mercy being played for the first time in almost 2 decades. Moreover, those set lists also became more creative as can seen in this show, with a unheard of first set Dark Star and a 2nd set Playing In The Band reprise that seemingly finishes a tune started 4 nights ago in a different city!Stop back tomorrow and the next day for nights 2 and 3 of this run.
