In December 1995, Bruce Hornsby went on a brief tour in Europe, playing shows in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany Sweden and England. This soundbaord recording captures the Netherlands show, from Amsterdman on December 5, 1995, a quarter century ago today. Hornsby gives you a little bit of everything in this one. He covers both Madman Across The Water and Piano Man from fellow pianists Elton John and Bill Joel, respectively. He includes tunes from his days with the Grateful Dead, such as Scarlet Begonias and Brokedown Palace. And in in the spirit of the season and in keeping with our theme, he provides his versions of Greensleves and We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Heck, for good measure he even gives you a snippet of 99 Bottles of Beer On The Wall, bringing back memories of school bus trips as a kid!

Is it just me or does Hornsby sound like he's had an extended cocktail hour? It cracked me up when he said "I played this song with the dead but there were 78,880 more people there" or something like that. Thanks - this one is really like being at that club in Amsterdam!
