In 1998, Bruxe Hornsby stopped planning set lists for his concerts, instead taking spontaneous requests from the audience to build each performance. Within each show, Hornsby encompassed rock, jazz, blues, country, Broadway and classical music. all within a jam band framework. He gave several of his classic songs new arrangements, such as transforming Valley Road into sounding much like the Grateful Dead’s Wharf Rat. He often interspersed snippets of tunes from other artists into his own songs, such as incorporating Under The Boardwalk into Fields of Gray. This soundboard recording captures Hornsby and his new approach in Tampa on December 1, 1998, 22 years ago today. In keeping with bith his new spirit of improvisation and our monthlyu theme, Hornsby inserts a Christmas Jam into the middle of The Way It Is!
