Christmas time in the New York area means the lighting of the tree in Rockefeller Center in Manhattan, a tradition that dates back to 1933. Each year the tree is usually donated by a local resident in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ and CT) though there have been times when the tree has come from as far away as Vermont, Pennsylvania or Ohio! Typically, the tree is a Norway spruce.  Since 1997,.the tree lighting has been televised by NBC in New York, with musical guests playing a host of holiday tunes.  This TV soundboard captures James Taylor at the 2015 tree lighting, on December 2, 2015, 5 years ago today.  JT plays something old - Winter Wonderland - and something new - Snow Time, an original holiday song.
