1987 - Three decades ago this very day, on February 19, 1987, what started out as a concert by Taj Mahal at the Palomino Club in North Hollywood, became an historic rock and roll event. Three fans in attendance leaped on stage and launched into an impromptu rock & roll jam session. Fans on stage would normally call for security, except in this case the 3 individuals happened to be Bob Dylan, fellow Wilbury George Harrison, and John Fogerty (who was never a Wilbury but would have fit in nicely). This was a jam session in the truest sense of the word. The 3 pulled out rock classics such as Midnight Hour, Johnny B Goode and Blue Suede Shoes. The audience requested Dylan’s Watching The River Flow, and they complied, except Harrison took lead vocals. All 3 legends shared a single microphone on the chorus to Hey Bo Diddley. Yet, as if that wasn’t enough, one more highlight may have topped every other moment of this performance. Dylan, who had never before met Fogerty, told John that he had better play a certain song or people would only remember Tina Turner’s version. Forgerty responded by saying “All right, I’m gonna do this for one reason – Bob Dylan asked me to do it” and broke into the opening notes of Proud Mary! As everyone knows, Fogerty had gone years without playing any Creedence tunes due to disputes with his record label. Beginning with this show, CCR material would return full time to Fogerty’s live performances. This Soundboard + HQ audience recording captures every note of that historic night and is yet another must have for anyone’s collection.
