Marshall Crenshaw - 1985 - #1:  In 1985, Marshall Crenshaw released his 3rd studio album entitled Downtown.  The disc was a bit of a departure from his previous two albums, having a slightly more rootsy sound to it. While the album received generally positive critical reviews, it was not a commercial success, failing to crack the Billboard top 100.  For whatever reason, Crenshaw, who crafted some of the best pop tunes of the early 1980s, simply never caught on with the public at large. This high quality audience recording captures him on tour in support of Downtown in at Fordham University in the Bronx on December 9, 1985, 34 years ago today. Ironically, some 30 years later, Crenshaw would wind up hosting a radio show on Fordham's WFUV-FM called the Bottomless Pit.  In any event, download this one, then come back on December 22 for the 2nd half of this Same Tour, Different Show set.  NOTE - this may be just sightly lower quality than we usually post at So Many RoadS, but there's not enough Crenshaw bootlegs out there so I wanted to be sure to share this!
